Carson Valley lives and communities
Our Foundation Story
Bridging Critical Gaps
The East Fork Ember Foundation serves as the official nonprofit partner to the East Fork Fire Protection District, established in 2025 to address a crucial need in our community. We understand that protecting Carson Valley requires more than just brave firefighters—it demands cutting-edge equipment, comprehensive training, and innovative programs that keep our first responders prepared for any emergency.
Our foundation exists because we recognize that public funding alone cannot meet all the demands of modern emergency response. From life-saving breathing apparatus to advanced training programs, the needs of our firefighters continue to evolve with new challenges and technologies. That's where community partnership becomes essential.
Through strategic partnerships with local businesses, dedicated community members, and corporate sponsors, we channel resources directly to where they're needed most. Every dollar donated translates into tangible tools and programs that enhance the safety and effectiveness of our emergency response teams.

We believe that investing in the people who stand on the front lines of danger means investing in the safety and strength of our entire Carson Valley community. Our mission extends beyond simply providing equipment—we're building a comprehensive support system that ensures our firefighters can respond effectively to any emergency, from structure fires to medical emergencies to natural disasters.

A Breath of Life Initiative
$325,000 Goal - Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Filling & Light Truck
When firefighters enter burning buildings or respond to hazardous material incidents, their self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) becomes their lifeline to survival. The East Fork Ember Foundation's flagship "Breath of Life" initiative aims to secure a specialized SCBA filling and light truck that will revolutionize how our firefighters maintain their critical air supply during extended operations.
This mobile air supply unit represents far more than just equipment—it's a game-changer for firefighter safety and operational efficiency. Currently, when firefighters exhaust their air supply during prolonged incidents, they must return to the station for refills, creating dangerous gaps in coverage and response capability.

Mobile Air Supply
Equipped with compressors and storage tanks to fill SCBA bottles on-site, providing continuous breathable air without station returns.
2
2
Quick Refills
Enables rapid refills allowing firefighters to remain engaged in operations without lengthy interruptions for air supply.

3
Enhanced Safety
Continuous air supply ensures firefighters can operate safely in hazardous environments while providing essential scene lighting.

Operational Versatility
Supports various incidents beyond firefighting including chemical spills, rescue operations, and hazmat responses.
Essential Safety Initiatives
Beyond major equipment purchases, the East Fork Ember Foundation addresses critical ongoing needs that directly impact firefighter health, safety, and operational readiness. These targeted initiatives ensure our first responders have access to the latest safety protocols and equipment standards.
Decontamination Safety
$1,850 Annual
Specialized firefighter decontamination wipes remove hazardous contaminants, smoke, soot, and toxic substances from skin and equipment after exposure incidents. These wipes are critical for minimizing long-term health risks associated with harmful chemical exposure—a growing concern in modern firefighting operations.
Helmet Replacement
$22,500 Total
Fire helmet replacement program addresses the 10-year lifespan recommendation for 60 firefighter helmets at $375 each. These traditional-style helmets provide essential head protection and meet current NFPA safety standards, ensuring our firefighters have reliable protective equipment during the most dangerous situations.
Each of these initiatives represents a commitment to proactive safety measures rather than reactive responses to equipment failures. By maintaining current safety standards and replacing equipment before it reaches critical wear points, we protect both our firefighters and the communities they serve. The decontamination program, in particular, addresses emerging health concerns related to carcinogen exposure that have become increasingly prevalent in firefighting operations.
Professional Development Investment
Annual Paramedic Training Program
Every fire engine and rescue ambulance in East Fork maintains a minimum of one paramedic on board—a standard that directly translates to saved lives in our community. Paramedics provide advanced life support capabilities including defibrillation and administration of critical medications that can mean the difference between life and death during medical emergencies.
Comprehensive Training Process
The East Fork Fire Protection District has built a reputation for developing homegrown talent, bringing EMTs up through the ranks to become certified paramedics. This approach ensures continuity, local knowledge, and strong team cohesion among our emergency response personnel.
Every newly hired EMT must complete paramedic school within four years of hire—a requirement that demonstrates our commitment to advanced medical care capabilities. The comprehensive one-year paramedic program includes intensive didactic learning, hands-on hospital clinical rotations, and culminates with a demanding two-month internship that prepares graduates for real-world emergency scenarios.
At $11,000 per student, supporting two paramedic candidates annually represents a significant investment in community health and safety. This funding gap, filled by the East Fork Ember Foundation, ensures that financial constraints never limit our ability to maintain the highest standards of emergency medical care.
Community Programs
Fire Explorer Program
$3,500 Annual
Our Fire Explorer Program introduces youth ages 14-21 to firefighting and emergency services through hands-on training, leadership development, and community service. Participants work alongside experienced firefighters, gaining practical knowledge while building character and considering emergency services as a career path. The program includes competitions, camps, and mentorship opportunities that create the next generation of first responders.
Adopt-A-Fire Station
$12,000 Annual
Fire stations serve as a second home for firefighters who live and work there 24/7. This vital program maintains operational quality of equipment and appliances across four staffed stations at $3,000 each. Funding covers mattresses, recliners, dishes, dishwashers, washers, and dryers—essential items that support the daily lives of our emergency responders and ensure they can rest and recover between calls.
Fit Firefighter Program
$3,500 Annual
Firefighter fitness is crucial for handling extreme physical demands, preventing injury, and reducing cardiac events—a leading cause of firefighter deaths. This program ensures up-to-date, consistent fitness equipment across all stations, supporting cardiovascular health, strength training, and injury prevention. Physical fitness directly impacts job performance and can make the difference between life and death in emergency situations.
